Overview

Schools are required to establish an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) when there are 21 or more English Learners. ELAC must meet a minimum of 4 times a year to perform the following objectives: Advise the principal and staff on the school's program for ELs and advise the School Site Council on the development of the Single School Plan for Student Achievement, assist the principal and staff on the school's needs assessment, the school's annual language census (R-30), and efforts to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance. Schools will review or develop bylaws and elect a new governing board each year; comprised of a President, Vice President, Secretary and a representative to attend the ELAC meetings.
