FitnessGram Testing (5th grade)

Fitness Gram

The primary goal of the FitnessGram test is to assist students in establishing lifetime habits of regular physical activity. The test provides information that can be used by students to assess and plan personal fitness programs; teachers to design the curriculum for physical education programs;and parents and guardians to understand their children's fitness levels. This program also provides results that are used to monitor changes in the physical fitness of California students. By law, all school districts in California are required to administer FitnessGram annually to all students in grades five,seven, and nine.

FitnessGram Areas Assessed:

1. Aerobic capacity: One mile run/jog/walk

2. Abdominal strength: Curl Ups

3. Trunk strength & flexibility: Trunk Lift

4. Upper body strength: Push Ups

5. Flexibility: Sit and Reach

6. Body composition: Body Mass Index calculated from height and weight
